Peppol is an international network that helps businesses and governments securely and efficiently send and receive electronic documents, such as invoices. It standardizes and simplifies the exchange of e-invoices and other business documents, regardless of the software used or the country in which an organization is located. This makes administration faster, cheaper, and less error-prone.
Starting January 1, 2026, e-invoicing will become mandatory for transactions between Belgian VAT-registered companies.
The sending and receiving of invoices take place via the Peppol network, which consists of various Access Points that companies can connect to. Through these Access Points, different parties communicate with each other using UBL (the standard format for exchanging electronic invoices).
