What is Peppol?

Modified on Fri, 18 Apr at 3:09 PM

Peppol is an international network that helps businesses and governments securely and efficiently send and receive electronic documents, such as invoices. It standardizes and simplifies the exchange of e-invoices and other business documents, regardless of the software used or the country in which an organization is based. This makes administrative processes faster and more cost-effective.

As of January 1, 2026, e-invoicing will become mandatory for transactions between VAT-registered businesses in Belgium.

Invoices will be sent and received via the Peppol network, which consists of various Access Points that companies can connect to. Through these Access Points, different parties communicate using UBL (Universal Business Language), the standard format for electronic invoice exchange.
